Where they say stones

Everything is known to. Here, let’s say, Peloponnes in Greece, according to Encyclopedia, -Polostrov. And in fact, it is connected with the mainland only the narrowest stake, which cuts the ancient Corinthian canal. As a result, De Facto Peloponnese is the same island. And in the literal sense, the island of treasure – since the earth stores it countless antiquities accumulated on the semi-imny-half-half history of Greece.

Alas, the current Greeks, to the disappointment of tourists, are not at all similar to antique athletes. They, on the contrary, prick and low. Summing up the hot discussion about the change in the genotype, which took place in a small tavern, one of our compatriot – a big fan of Greece – Intravenly noticed: "Do not touch the Greeks, they gave the world of Sun and tired". And really, why "Troat Greek", If their country is largely preserved as it was in ancient times.

City without sun

One of the most powerful civilizations of ancient Greece was a Mycenaean, who strengthened on the Peloponnese Peninsula. Another Homer described rich cocks, drowning in gold. However, it was a very long time ago: Mycenaean civilization disappeared in the XIII century to P.NS. There are also a mixture (or rather, the ruins of this city-state) in the flames of the foreground Agius Ilia in the province of Argolis. The fortress surrounded by the city is built of giant stones that gave the ancient Greeks a reason to assume that Michanes – the creation of the hands of a giant cyclope. The remains of the Mycena Fortress are still reminded of her was the greatness.

Until the XIX century, all these stories about cyclopes were perceived only as a beautiful legend. But in 1870, the archaeologist-amateur Henrich Schliman, reading "Iliad" Homer, started excavation in those places where, according to the poet, the Troy (Turkey) and Mycena. He did it stubbornly, despite the mockery of the archaeologists who did not believe that he could find something worthwhile. But Schliman found – primarily an unprecedented amount of gold.

According to Homer, as well as the tragedy of Eshil "Oresta", The city of Mycena was founded by the ancient Greek hero of Persem – the son of Danai and Zeus. The Perseus dynasty was conquered by Pelops, the son of Tantalum (demon from the underground kingdom). It is believed that the well-known Miktena Tsarist family went from this very Pelops. Agamemenon, the most famous representative. He participated in the Trojan War, helping his brother Melany, the king of Sparta, to rescue his wife, beautiful Elena, captured by Paris. While Agamemenon fought in Three (and the war lasted ten years), his wife Cliqueness fell in love with a certain Igicf. Because of what the husband returned from the war, when he took a bath. The son of the king, Orest, revenge his mother for the death of his father, killing her and her lover. After that, disappeared from Mycen (the gate, through which he fled, still preserved). Here is such an ancient Greek tragedy.

Now on the site of the legendary city of the museum, open from 8 am to 7 pm (input 1.5 thousand. drachm). In the fortress-citadel, tourists fall through the lion’s gate, named so because of the bas-relief depicting two lioness. To the right at the entrance to the fortress the royal cemetery: there were once the lords who created the fame of the city. Their wealth is evidenced by the fact that there were many gold products found in the grave to them and subsequently transmitted to the National Archaeological Museum in Athens subsequently. In particular, Schliman squandered the well-preserved golden posthumous mask when the archaeologist found her, he immediately sent the Greek king to the telegram with the words: "I look in the face of Agamemnon". Alas, Shliman became mistaken, subsequently it turned out that the mask belonged to another king, who lived in three centuries later.

Mycenae – still the place of direct masters, because it is once a rich city never happens to the bright sun. It can pour the entire valley, and the sky above the palace will still frown. So it happened. Moreover, as soon as the guide told us this story, it rained.

It is difficult to be a god. Especially Esklap

The next item of the program is an epidaurus located 30 km east of Nafplio, the ancient capital of Greece, one of the most beautiful cities of Peloponnese. Place picturesque (Alley, Southern Poplays and Commitable Olive Trees), Historical Museum, Luxury Ancient Greek Amphitheater. It is the amphitheater that attracts in our time to the epidavr of the crowd of tourists. This is one of the best of all the preserved ancient Greek buildings, which accommodate 14 thousand people, with a special system of acoustics, when every word, even whisper spoken on stage, clearly comes to the viewer in the very last row. Summates a group of compatriots, cheerfully sowing on the stage of epidaur "Walk horses over the river". However, in the evenings in the epidaurus everything changes. From July 26 to August 30, every Friday there is played by real ancient Greek dramas. Start at 21.00, tickets can be bought on site (viewers deliver to Athens or Nafplio Special buses).

Where they say stones

But in the IV century to p.NS. The epidavr was famous for the theater, but the sanctuary of Asclepia, or the Eskulap – the god of healing. His mother was the earthly woman, and the Father, by the way, the God of Apollo himself, who threw his girlfriend for banal treason in the fire (!), and the child born at that moment deftly managed to pick up and immediately sent to the upbringing to the wise of Centaur Chiron. Centaur Unhappy Child went out and taught him the art to treat diseases. They say the skill of Asclepia has reached such perfection that he even learned to revive the dead. People stopped dying, and the remaining Lord of the Underground Kingdom of Aid rebelled. Zeus, having considered his complaint, made Asclepia go down under the ground and stop helping people. However, as the legend says, the hedge of the medicine of Zeus did not obey and sometimes crawl out of the ground in the form of a snake to open up all new secrets of healing. Hence the symbol of doctors – snakes, or rather a snake.

Since Asclepius was God, the process of treatment with the ancient Greeks was perceived as a divine process. In the epidavre was located one of these "Medical centers", where the priests not only brought victims, but also used patients. Medicine from religion in ancient Greece separated only hippocrates.

And the divine treatment has nothing to do with modern. Whatever the disease, the patient was primarily planted on a strict diet of beans. Promiting the patient a few days, he was given a laxative, made from the grass, brought specifically from Crete, then forced some narcotic drugs to swallow and placed in a dark room in the basement, where the so-called sacred snakes of Asclepia were launched -. And I imagine a weak, sick person whose condition is aggravated by drugs, which lies on the moist of the cold floor without food and water, and around the snake, touching his scaly leather. No wonder that soon, such an ancient Greek began hallucinations: he began "was" The god of Asclepius and prescribed some recipe, which was subsequently removed from the basement of the patient with the priests, and they were applied in practice. The sanctuary has survived to the present day, in the southern part there is an ancient Greek hotel ("Katobogogo") for pilgrims and patients. In the same sanctuary there is a huge banquet hall, where the holiday of the Eskulap has been held in the Ancient Roman times.

Meeting with Malvazia

Roman period History of Greece, as you understand, does not end. One of the most glorious her pages is the Byzantine times, the monument of which is another city on Peloponnese – Monemvasia, or, as Europeans called it in the XIII century, the legendary Malvasia. Monemvasia Fortress is located on a huge rock separated from Peloponnese by a narrow cage, followed by a modern geographic town. From the gephira in Monemvation you can get through an ancient tunnel built by the letter "G" – so that the enemies who threatened the fortress could not see what is on the other side of the tunnel. The castle survived to this day began to build local residents in the 6th century, fleeing from frequent raids of barbaric tribes. The houses of the ancient Byzantines are reappeared by the rich Athenians who like this rest with a historical bias. But the tourist is able to gorgeously live in Monevasia (see. "Hotels").

Having been once in Greece, it is impossible not to love her. And it is impossible to stay from not going around all the legendary cities and weights Peloponnese. If you knew how large a list of memorable places, a full description of which was not able to accommodate any magazine at all. For God’s sake, do not get drunk! Remember that in Greece there is also a sea with a clean transparent water, and before your home, you need to boast a brown tan.
