Heaps of rusted barrels from under fuel, rotting on the salty sea wind appliances and dozens of white bears, inhabiting in a man abandoned by man. A bit of history

Sea Hydrometeorological (Polar) Station Cape Desire was organized in 1931 by managing ship safety in the north (Eko-North). In 1932, the station was transferred to the General Directorate of the Northern Sea Route (Gusmp), and in 1962 – the Main Department of the USSR Hydrometeorological Service (HugMS).

From 1931 at the station conducted meteorological observations under the category II of the Queen. Actinometric observations were conducted from 1936 to 1938 and from 1956 to the closure of the station. Sea coastal hydrometeorological observations were conducted from 1934 to 1996. At Cape there are military fortifications. It is digsulated in the ground small blocks and something like small trenches, in which once, in 1942-1943., Large-caliber machine guns and even gun were installed. These fortifications were made after an attack on the meteorological station in August 1942 by the German submarine.

It approached the meteorological station at the cape of desire in the surface position and fired a station from guns and machine guns. German sailors destroyed the station building with equipment and archive. Died observation materials from September 1941 to 25 August 1942.
Cape of desire do not confuse with any other cape. It is issued in the sea in the form of a climbing rock with almost rigorous slopes, replete stone browsing, rocks-remainers (monk rock).
