Sightseeing of Minsk: Cathedral of the Virgin Mary
Archkafoundral Church of the Most Holy Virgin Mary is the main Catholic temple in the capital of Belarus. It was built as a church at the Jesuit Monastery in 1710. His architectural style belongs to Vilen Baroque. After the abolition of the Order of Jesuits in 1773, the church became the cathedral of the Minsk Diocese.
After a strong fire, which happened in 1797, the temple was restored in a more luxurious form. He was the parish church until 1917. During the years of Soviet power in the building of the temple there was a sports palace. The structure itself was rebuilt beyond recognition, the towers were demolished, altars were destroyed, on the site of which the tire was equipped.
Restoration of the Cathedral of the Virgin Mary began in 1990. The appearance and interiors of the Cathedral are recreated in pristine.
