Sightseeing Miami: Venetian Pool
Venetian pool (Venetian Pool) – a swimming complex located in the Southeast District of Miami, stylized under the Venetian lagoon. It was built in the period from 1921 to 1925 by the American architect in Finnish, together with the Italian architect, Denman Finnom according to the plan of the famous town planner and entrepreneur of that era George Edgar Merrick. Currently, the historic public swimming pool attracts up to 100 thousand tourists annually and is considered one of the bright urban attractions.
The pool with a capacity of over 3100 cubic meters of fresh water was built on four acres of abandoned coral quarry. Initially, several gondolas were launched here, and the platform for diving was built above the main waterfall, but after a while the pool has undergone engineering and architectural changes. In 1989 and 2009, a major overhaul was made in the swimming complex.
Now on the territory of Venetian Pool surrounded by exotic vegetation there are several pools: a 60 cm children’s depth near the rescuer station, the main adult height of 120 cm and the swimming section of 2.5 M in depth of the central waterfall. There are sand islands with palm trees, picturesque underwater caves, grottoes, waterfalls, fountains, bridges, cafe area and two viewing towers overlooking the vintage mansions of Coral-Gables. Venetian pool is a training center for future professional swimmers and rescuers.
