Sights of the Czech Republic: Kladrobi

35 km south-west Plusen is a wonderful Benedictine Monastery of Kladruby (Kladruby).

Founded by order of Prince Vladislav (Vaclav) first in 1114, he was considered the largest and rich monastery in Bohemia for a long time. Repeatedly rebuilt (the last reconstruction on the project of Kilian Digenhopher and Giovanni Santini passed in the XVIII century), he is now in the three of the largest in the country, at the same time being one of the most beautiful cult complexes of the Czech Republic. Christmas concerts are held regularly, and in August – Music Festival.

The complex is open in April and October on weekends from 9:00 to 16:00, in May and September – from Thursday to Sunday from 9:00 to 16:00, from June to August – on the same days until 17:00. An organized tour with an English-speaking guide will cost 70 CZK- 100 CZK.

You can get to the monastery by train from Plzen to Strubro Station (Stribro, 6 km north-east) and then transfer to one of the quite frequent local buses that depart from the bus station in the city center. Himself of the town of Strhibiro, by the way, is famous for his Renaissance Town Hall on the main square – one of the most beautiful in the country (it is characteristic that Stribro is Czech – "silver").
