Salt Lake City (UT)
Salt Lake City (Salt Lake City) – the capital and largest city of the State of Utah (Utah). The city is located on the US West in the south-east coast of the Great Salt Lake (Great Salt Lake), after whom got its name, literally translated as «City in Salt Lake».
Geographically, Salt Lake City is located in the arid and little populated region that bears the name of the Great Basin (Great Basin). The average height above sea level of a little more than 1,300 meters. The town is surrounded by mountains with numerous canyons, giving the area a scenic view. To the east of Salt Lake City Mountain towering Wasatch (Wasatch), to the west – the mountain Okuirr (Oquirrh), in the south there is a large freshwater lake in Utah (Utah Lake).
In the region there are only two large metropolitan areas, one of which – the agglomeration of Salt Lake City. The population of the city for 2013 is estimated in 191 thousand people, the population of urban agglomeration – more than 1.1 million people.
From the first days of its foundation of Salt Lake City is the religious center of Mormonov. Followers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, abbreviated LDS) led by his leader Brigham Young (Brigham Young) founded the city in 1847. The influence of mormons in the region is very high, although the percentage of adherents of this religious direction is gradually decreasing. Today, only half of the residents of Salt Lake City consist in LDS (in rural regions and suburbs this percentage more).

The main attraction of Salt Lake City and the whole state of Utah is the historic and religious complex Temple Square, which is also the city center. Visit in Salt Lake City can not be submitted without visiting the mountains. South Canyon Little Cottonwood Canyon is located, where the popular Alta and Snowbird Ski resorts are located & Summer Resort. The north is located Canyon Big Cottonwood Canyon, where Solitude and Brighton resorts are located. Another popular vacation spot is Donut Falls. Emigration and City Creek Canyons are good for cycling. Total within a radius of 1 hour from the city are about a dozen ski resorts.
