Flatiron Building or «Iron» – The famous skyscraper located in Manhattan. Name «Iron» (Flatiron) occurs due to the obvious similarity of a wedge-shaped building with this household appliance.

Skyscraper Flatiron Building was built in 1902 and at the time of construction was called Fuller Building. Building height – 87 meters (22 floors). At the beginning of the 20th century it was an impressive height. But the universal recognition of the skyscraper received due to its form, and not because of the height. The triangle has become the best solution to enter the building in an uncomfortable place for construction at the intersection of Broadway and Fifth Avenue. If you look at the flatiron bilding from above, the big sides of the skyscraper form a corner of just 25 degrees between.

It is worth noting that the statement that the iron was one of the first skyscrapers in New York with steel frame, does not correspond to reality. By the end of the 19th century, several dozen buildings in New York were built on this technology.

Interesting fact – after building «House-Iron» got specific glory in men. Thanks to the features of the location near the building there were strong ascending streams, raising women’s skirts. This attracted a large amount of zooak, watching women passing by.
