Cities of Greece: Ayos Nikolaos
The largest resort area of Crete, the city of Ayos Nikolaos (Ayios Nikolaos) lies on the West Bank of Merabelon.
This is a highly picturesque city with its own style and charm, but almost completely devoid of historical monuments. Excellent Archaeological Museum (open from Thursday to Sunday from 8.00 to 17.00; 3 euros) lies on Paleologou Street north of the former Salted Lake, which is now the internal harbor of the city. No less interesting People’s Museum (from Thursday to Sunday from 10.00 to 14.00; 3 euros) is located near the city tourist office, also not far from the port.
The lake and the port are surrounded by numerous restaurants, nightclubs, discos and bars, and … All! Some tourists are clearly surprised, being in such a popular resort that does not have any decent beach in general. But Ayos-Nicola is most likely the center of the entire area, his gate and the capital of nightlife than the resort itself.
