Cities of France: Carcasson

Southern Languedok areas stretch from the mouth of the river OD to the coastal city of Perpignan. These edges of low rocky hills and running from the pyrenees of the rivers are visited by foreign tourists. However, Kalkason’s fortress city-Fortress (Carcassonne, Carcassona), founded right on the railway branch from Toulouse in Montpellier, is known as one of the most picturesque cities of France and accurately – the most amazing city of Languedoc.

In the first century BC. NS. The Romans rebuilt the old Celtic fortification, turning it into the outpost of Julia-Karkaso, and Westges led by Eodorich expanded the Fort, having received a major reference point of the future Franco-Spanish border as a result. In the Middle Ages, with County Trensavel, Carcassonason turns into the largest citadel of Europe, which has played a huge role in Albigo wars. In August 1209, the Army Stephen de Monfora took the city storm, and the old fortress fell, many years then stood without the owner. However, restored in 1844-1853 (outstanding work of the French restorer Viol-le-Duke) Carcassonne and now looks like the same as during his dawn.
