Cities of Azerbaijan: Baku

Baku – the capital and the largest city of the country, stretched on the shores of the Bay of the same name, located in the southern part of the Absheron Peninsula. The whole old part of the city is one extensive historical and architectural reserve, sometimes called "Baku Acropole".

The main attractions of the Old Town, mentioned in the ancient sources, are the Palace of Shirvanshakhov (XV in.) v "Old Fortress" Icheri-Sheher (XII in.), "Maiden’s Tower" Gyz Galasi (height 29.5 m., VII-XII in.), the mausoleum of Seyid Yahya Bakuvi, caravansera – Multani (XV in.), Buhapa (xV in.), Mollahana (xiii in.), numerous mosques – Muhammad Ibn Abu-Bakra ("Son Gala", 1078-79. – The oldest city building), Mirza-Ahmed (1345 g.), Molla Ahmed (XIV in.), Juma (XV-XX centuries.), Lezgi (1169 g.), Mosque-Med Motion (1646-47.), baths (XV-XIX centuries.), The LTGA complex (XVI-XVII centuries.), House of Baku Khanov (XVIII in.) as well as numerous rich buildings of Xih in.
