Cities in Spain: Pamplona
The administrative center of Navarre and one of the oldest cities of the country – Pamplona, or Iruna (Pamplona, Irunea, Iruna), lies at the foot of Western Pyrenees, in the Non-Ukrainian Cuenca de Pamplon Valley of the Upper Trend of the Arga River. The city was founded under the name Pompaelo in the first century BC. NS. Roman commander Pompey Magnus (it is not difficult to guess where its name comes from) on the site of the ancient Basque settlement of Iruka. In the V century, the city captures Westges, in the 6th century he passes under the control of francs, from 738 – Mavrov, and in 778, Charlemander practically erases him from the face of the earth. In 824, the Arista’s Inigo is coroned here – the first king of Pamplona (however, the city as such during this period does not exist – all the power of the king spread only to the castle of Pamplona and several surrounding valleys), in the XI century the first episcopate is based, and after annexation of Navarre Spain (1512 G.) Pamplona becomes the capital of the autonomous kingdom of Navarre – the key assembly of the defense of the Strategic Bag of Pyrenees. Since then, the city has finished all the new rows of fortress structures – in the XIV century King Louis I build the castle in the southern part of the city, in the 1513rd Ferdinand V demolitions the old fort and builds a new one, but after a century the fortress is rebuilt under a new type of weapon – artillery, And only in the XVIII century Philip II completes the construction of the last row of walls and forts (the last 6 bastions were erected in 1888, when it was already clear that the age of fortresses expired).
The old walls of the fortress can be considered the brightest landmark of the city – so far three of the four sides of the city walls, the citadel and the fort have been perfectly preserved, although it has long been used only as parks and recreation areas. Although Pamplona is a fairly large city, its historic CASCO-anti-antico center is very compact, which allows you to find the most characteristic historical buildings within the radius of literally ten minutes walk from the main square – Plaza del Castillo. The oldest one "Civic" City Building – House of Camara de Comptos (Court of Auditors of the Kingdom of Navarre, XIV.), There are also several medieval bridges across the Arga River – Santa Engracia, Milus, Magdalena and San Pedro. The Medieval Palace of Sant-Peter (used as the Royal and Episcopal Residence, as well as the Office of the Military Governor Navarre) was almost completely destroyed during the battle of the Civil War and after the recent restoration used to accommodate the Navarre archive.
The most famous samples of urban architecture also include the wonderful Gothic Cathedral of Cedral de Santa Maria (1397-1527.) with a museum of religious art (Museo Diocesano) surrounding his complex of old quarters of Casco-Antiko quarters, Baroque Town Hall (XVIII in.), Episcopal Palace, Church of San Saturnino, Santiago Batista and Rosalejo seminary, Espeare Palaces (now there is a music school here), Navarro-Tafal and Gendine (rebuilt under the hotel), Neoclassical Palace Navarre (XIX.), the impressive Museum of Navarre in the complex of the magnificent old Hospital of Santo Domingo, as well as the ultra-modern Concert and Exhibition Center Auditorio-Balluarte.
Pamplon has many parks and green areas. The oldest park of the city is a romantic tanker (XVII-XIX centuries.) with wide pedestrian walkways, amphitheaters and abundance of sculptural compositions. Media Moon Park is built as part of the Ensanche district complex (north of the citadel) and allows you to view many of the sights of the northern part of the city right from the green zone. But the most picturesque park area is considered, naturally, the city citadel of Ciudadel and the area around the old forts of Vuelle-del Castillo with large lawns and numerous exhibitions of modern sculptures. A small Japanese garden is broken in Yamaguchi Park (between Yurrama and Hermitagasoy), also a good Campus Park University Navarre, Park del Mundo in Chanrea and Arga Park.

Every year from July 6 to July 14, the famous San Fermin festival is held in the city. Center for colorful multi-day festivals – "Ensierro" (Encierro) – jogging through the streets of the city, which attracts guests from all continents. Each festival morning, in 7.00 (Tradition festival should begin in the seventh hour of the seventh day of the seventh month), 6 bulls are produced from the pen near the Santo Domingo Square, from where they run around the city to the arena on Hamingway Square (it was he glorified the San Firm festival in his works). A hundreds of local residents and tourists who inspect their courage (or the amount of drunk) are running next to the bulls. Not always this spectacle ends safely for the brave, but every year all new and new participants in this ancient festival are going to the streets of the city.
