Cities in Spain: Bilbao
Bilbao City, or Bilbo (Bilbao, Bilbo) – the largest settlement and administrative center of the province of Biskaya, as well as one of the largest ports of the country. The city is located 30 km from the coast, at the mouth of the River Nervion, however, its suburbs and the port area go to the Biscay Bay. In antiquity, at the place of Bilbao there was a fishing settlement, however, the modern city was founded on June 15, 1300 by Don Diego Lopez de Aro, the ruler of the Biscay. Rich and modern, with an attractive business center, surrounded by gloomy slums and extinguishing smoke factors, Bilbao is now in the process of recovery after the real collapse of its traditional industry, which was noted the end of the XX century. Suddenly, the following famous steel mills and shipyards are actively rebuilt into conference centers and luxury condominiums, cargo stations are planted with trees, and chaos of coastal docks and warehouses turns into boulevards and shopping centers. New metro, airport and celebration of the seven anniversary of the founding of Bilbao (2000 g.) Gave a new impetus to the development of the city, which, in combination with the well-known Basque friendly, promises to turn it into one of the best tourist centers on the northern coast of Spain in the near future.

Casco Vieho (the Old Town) lies on the eastern bank of the river and retained the most important elements of the historic heritage of Bilbao – the building of the mayor’s office, pompous mansions of the Neturi district, Gothic Basilica Cedral de Santiago (XV in.), elegant arcades of Plaza Nueva, Church of San Anton (XVII in.), Old El-Arenal district, Church of San Vicente (XV-XVII centuries.) With its picturesque garden and statue of the Virgin Mary, the ARRIAGA Theater opposite the old railway station and the same old cafe La Concordia on the picturesque street of Navarre. Honored Glory enjoys the Art Museum of Eusal-Miseo-Bilbao (Moseo-Basco, an extensive collection of Basque Archeology, Ethnology and History), located in the complex of the old monastery of San Andres on the Square of Michel de Unubuno. Part of his collection was carried out in 2007 into a separate meeting of the new Museum of Archeology Biscayan, located in the building of the old forest station. At the exit from Casco-Vieho, it is necessary to visit the old market of art nouveau-mercado de la ribera on the banks of the river, which offers the best (and the freshest!)
