The first settlement in this place was laid by the Romans, however, as such a city appeared in the IV-VII centuries as an advanced outpost of the Empire of Franks. In 741, the settlement is first mentioned in official documents as Helibrune (approximate translation – "Therapeutic key" – A clear hint of a source that is located near Basilica). However, the second world again turned it into ruins, at the same time and glorifying – in the surrounding salt mines, the Nazis hid a fair number of valuables allocated throughout Europe.
